I've been sitting at home making mixes.. celebrating two occasions: 1) I have a computor now, so it's easy 2) I have lots of free time to indulge in my music addiction
I just got back from drinking a few glasses of wine at the local bar and writing in my journal. yum and yum! An introspective habit that is good to get back into. I'm about to drunk dial, but after my brisk walk with my headphones blasting, I've been inspired to write about music.
Recently i've found myself drawn to late 80s/early 90s rock and hip hop... why? I don't know. But listening to Jane's Addiction full blast on my head phones on my walk home made me wish I was a 16 year old again with died pink hair at a huge stadium festival (HFStival, Tibeten Freedom Concert, Lollipalooza etc.) ... crowd surfing to the Beastie Boys and The Prodigy, braving the mosh pit, returning to my parents' house covered in bruises and haven taken a beating, absolutely enamoured with RocknRoll but with no fear or inhibitions - only wide-eyed, youthful optimism and angst... sigh... those were the days.
A quick story: All the organizers at Common Ground are around my age: mid twenties, some older, some younger. While I was there, there was an influx of college students on spring break... At a 'new volunteer' orientation a few of the leaders busted out singing 'Wonderwall' by Oasis, and all the 18 year old just stared, Blankly. They were 6 years old when that song came out and have No Idea who Oasis Is!!! Ok, now I feel old! ... And it's not like I ever really liked Oasis in the first place... but on the principle of being a staple of my youth, i give them props, and they earn major nostalgia points...
So, with that in mind.. here's a few play lists... some of it's nostalgic, some new shit, and a few curve balls.. you know how i do. ;)
