I just finished reading Going To Pieces Without Falling Apart by Mark Epstein
It's a quick read: 180 p. Non-fiction, but well written and easy to read.
The basic premise: Combining the science of psychoanalysis with the spirituality of Buddhism and meditation, it uses both practices to develop a deeper sense of self and a stronger understanding of existence. I like the fact that it uses both analytical thinking and spiritual practices. Picking up one where the other leaves off, it acknowledges both reason and emotion as equally important parts of human existence. Although, i suppose, spirituality, needing to be experienced and felt, cannot be fully described in words and it falls only a little short in that area.
It's main point centers around the idea of 'letting go' of ourselves in order to find happiness. 'Letting go' means facing our emptiness and our fears instead of fighting to control them...
Much of the book solidified already existing ideas that had previously been vague in my mind and brought further clarity to my thoughts and observations. It also helped facilitate several new realizations.
There's actually quite a bit wisdom to be found in this book, i would definately recommend reading it...
